Will she be tamed? …
Vpstart Crow Productions, a professional theatre company in residence at the Cramer Center in Old Town Manassas, has announced the second production of its 2005 season — William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”
The play will run from April 29 to May 15 at the restored church-turned-theatre.
One of The Bard’s most famous comedies, “Shrew” is set in Verona — Verona, New York, in the 1980s — where the audience will meet Baptista Minola’s two daughters: the popular Bianca and Katherina.
Petruchio endeavors to woo Katherina, so he can take her dowry and his friend Hortensio may marry Bianca, who has sworn not to wed until her sister has finally married.
The show, which will include great music of the era, will run at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.
Also, a special “Pay What You Can,” preview performance will be conducted on Thursday at 8 p.m. as a benefit for the community. Members of the Red Hat Society will dress in red hats and purple outfits to celebrate Red Hat Society Day and the release of Laugh Lines, written by founder Sue Ellen Cooper.
The celebration will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Walden Books in the Manassas Mall. Included will be a mini tea served by the Victorian Tea Room, a best-dressed contest and the raffle of a basket provided by the Tea Room with proceeds going to the Prince William Chapter of the American Red Cross. The ladies will start the day with a breakfast buffet at the Piedmont Club in Haymarket at 10 a.m.
The society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and élan more than three years ago. Members believe silliness is the comedy relief of life.
