Chamber of Commerce to celebrate 70th anniversary

The Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a party at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center St., in Old Town Manassas on Monday.

The public is invited to stop by at 1 p.m. for a complimentary slice of courtesy cake .

In addition to celebrating its anniversary, the chamber will unveil its new logo, designed by ImageWerks.

The chamber will continue to celebrate at various events throughout the next few months, culminating in an anniversary extravaganza planned for the annual Dinner Dance on June 25 at the Hyatt Fair Lakes.

Former chamber presidents and chairmen have been invited to attend, and displays of photographs take at various chamber events over the years will adorn the ballroom.

The first meeting of the chamber was conducted on April 18, 1935 and C. C. Cloe was elected as the chamber’s first president and dues were set at $5 a year.

Blood donors still needed for Tuesday drive

Appointments are still available for Tuesday’s Inova Blood Donor Services blood drive to be held in the Potomac Hospital auditorium.

The drive will run from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

Appointments are recommended and available every 15 minutes.

Delegate Parrish to open campaign headquarters

Delegate Harry J. Parrish, R-Manassas, will open his re-election campaign headquarters this weekend.

Parrish has invited supporters to join him at the 1 p.m. opening today at 9209 Center Street, next to the Loy E. Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.

“As a local businessman and public servant here in Manassas for most of my life, I chose the Old Town location because it exemplifies the values that have made this community a central focus for a much larger region,” Parrish said.

Parrish has served as a member of the House of Delegates representing Virginia’s 50th district for the past 24 years. Before that he served for over 25 years as a Manassas town councilman and mayor.

Parrish chairs the House Finance Committee and serves on the Commerce and Labor and Rules Committees.

He will face conservative challenger Steve Chapman in the June 14 Republican primary race.
