WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Tony Blanco hit his sixth homer of the season — a two-run blast against former big-leaguer Carlos Castillo — and the Potomac Cannons turned 11 hits into a 5-4 victory over the Winston-Salem Warthogs Thursday night at Ernie Shore Field.

Chris Williamson (2 for 4) and Gary Patchett (2 for 3) each drove in a run and the Cannons won their second straight game following the promotion of all-star Jesse Gutierrez to Double-A Chattanooga.

Mark Schramek and Brian Peterson collected two hits each for Potomac, which beat Castillo for the second time in a week.

Castillo, who is working hs way back from an injury, gave up five runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Edward Valdez picked up the win for the Cannons, allowing one run on eight hits in six innings to improve to 2-1.

Ruddy Yan went 3 for 5 and stole his 63rd base of the season for the Warthogs, who nearly came back from a 5-0 deficit against Potomac reliever Todd Coffey. Coffey gave up two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, but he worked a scoreless ninth and wound up with his first Carolina League save.
