Manassas Journal Messenger | Teacher on leave after DUI charge

A Stonewall Jackson High School teacher charged with DUI and felony hit and run is on administrative leave, according to a county school official who refused to identify herself.

She refused to elaborate and would not say who will make a decision on any further action school officials might take.

Prince William police say Brian Michael McCarthy, 23, of 14623 Danville Road in Dale City, was stopped on Dumfries road with no lights on at 3:08 a.m. Sunday. A 19-year-old woman saw the car at the last moment, but was unable to stop.

She hit the car, which drove away afterward, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, police spokeswoman. County police later stopped McCarthy’s car, which matched the description given by the victim, Chinn said. He was held on a $3,000 bond.

No one was hurt in the accident, though both cars were damaged extensively, Chinn said. It was unclear Wednesday what subject McCarthy teaches. He could not be reached Wednesday.

Rick Fitzgerald, county schools director of personnel was unavailable Wednesday afternoon. School district spokeswomen Irene Cromer and Bonnie Faye were not in. Stonewall Jackson officials referred inquiries to Superintendent Edward Kelly’s office. Efforts to reach Kelly failed Wednesday.
