Manassas Journal Messenger | Motorcycle crash kills two

Robert Craig Elkins was someone a person could talk to about anything, a friend of more than 10 years said Monday.

Elkins, 46, of Triangle, and his stepdaughter, Jessica Ashley Dudley, 17, were killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday on Vint Hill Road in Fauquier County.

Elkins worked as an electrical engineer for Consolidated Engineering Services of Arlington for 22 years, and was close to retirement, said his friend James Martin of Fauquier.

Martin said he had to leave work Monday morning when he learned of Elkins’ death. Martin met Elkins through a mutual friend 12 or 15 years ago, and the two shared an interest of motorcycles.

“We instantly became real good friends,” Martin said.

The two men frequently often rode or worked on motorcycles together after work, and once built a motorcycle together. Elkins also helped Martin through “a lot of rough times,” including a divorce, Martin said.

Dudley was a rising senior at Liberty High School in Bealeton, where she took part in basketball and track, according to her obituary.

An employee at the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office referred inquiries to Virginia State Police, who handled the accident. State police did not return calls late Monday.

Elkins is survived by his mother, his wife, two daughters and two stepdaughters, among other relatives. Dudley is survived by her mother, her father and stepmother, and nine siblings.
