Nominate a nonprofit …

The Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 16th annual Shelley Krasnow Community Service Award to be presented to an outstanding local non-profit organization that is providing a much needed volunteer service to the community.

The nominees as well as the recipient will be honored at the 16th annual Community Showcase Luncheon on Feb. 15 at the Best Western Battlefield Inn.

The winner will receive a plaque and a check for $1,000. Additionally, his or her name will be engraved onto a permanent plaque which is prominently displayed in the chamber office.

Anyone can nominate any worthy organization. To make a nomination, go to the Chamber’s Web site at http://www.pwcgmcc.org/shelley-krasnow.html and access a nomination form. Fill it out and mail it to Laurel Vaughan at the chamber office, 8963 Center St., Manassas, VA 20110-5403, fax it to (703) 368-4733 or e-mail it to [email protected] Nominations must be received by noon on or before Jan. 28.

The Manassas Museum System is presenting “Family Voices: Six Simple Steps to Save Your Family’s History,” a series of six workshops beginning Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William St. in Old Town Manassas. The fee is $20 per session and includes all course materials and supplies. Space is limited and those interested should call (703) 368-1873.

Prince William Ducks Unlimited will conduct its 27th annual Dinner/Auction on Feb. 11. Those attending can bid on wildlife prints, vacation weekends, sporting trips, outdoor gear and everything related to waterfowl. For more information, call (703) 369-7821. Proceeds will be used to preserve wetlands.

Northern Virginia Community College will be open for spring semester registration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 8. During these hours, students can talk to a counselor, apply to the college, take placement tests and register for classes. The spring semester begins Jan. 10.
