Robber shoots man in head in Stafford

GARRISONVILLE — A Stafford County convenience store clerk was shot in the head early Friday evening during a robbery and was listed in critical but stable condition, said Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett.

A man walked into a Quick Stop convenience at the intersection of Onville and Barrett Heights roads around 5:30 p.m., brandished a gun and ordered patrons and clerks in the store to the floor, Jett said.

One of the store’s two clerks was slow to comply and the man shot him in the head, Jett said.

The man ran from the store after he made the second clerk empty the register and put the money in a bag, Jett said.

Witnesses at the store told police the man was black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and slender, wearing a black leather hooded coat, dark pants and boots, Jett said.

Witnesses also told police they saw a late-model, gray or silver Ford Taurus in the area. The car had Virginia license plates with YF or YP as the first two letters. Police are interested in identifying the car, Jett said.

Police deployed K9 units to the scene soon after the robbery but had no success with the dogs, Jett said.

The clerk was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, Jett said.
