Thunderbird bandit swipes car from dealership lot

MANASSAS — A 2002 Ford Thunderbird with no license plates was stolen from Battlefield Ford on Thursday as employees at the dealership prepared to inspect the car and make it ready for sale, said Dave Lane, Manassas Police spokesman.

The car, which was still wrapped in white shipping plastic, was last seen by dealership employees at 8980 Mathis Ave. at about 9:15 a.m. someone drove off with it on Reb Yank Drive toward Portner Avenue, where it turned left, Lane said.

A witness told police the keys were in the cars ignition, Lane said.

The manufacturers suggested retail price of the blue coupe was $39,700, Lane said.
