Blacksburg man dies in U.S. 15 crash

A 79-year-old Blacksburg man was killed Wednesday at 1 p.m. when he drove his 1994 Mercury station wagon from Interstate 66 onto U.S. 15 near Manassas and into the path of an oncoming Dodge pickup truck, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

Frank Marvin, the driver of the station wagon, died at the scene of the accident near Buckland. His wife, Shirleigh Marvin, 70, was taken to Fairfax in critical condition, Chinn said.

Both were wearing their seat belts, Chinn said.

Michael Osborne, 41, his daughter, Brittany, 11, and father Richard Osborne, 66, all of Rixeyville, received minor injuries in the crash and were treated at Prince William Hospital, Chinn said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no charges were filed, Chinn said.

Man exposes himself to woman in Manassas

A 55-year-old woman told police that a man exposed himself to her at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday as she was getting out of her car in the 8300 block of Woodline Court in Manassas, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, Manassas police spokesman.

The woman told police that she started screaming when the 20- to 30-year-old white man opened the passenger door of her car, exposed himself and spoke to her, Woolverton said.

The man reached inside the woman’s car and tried to grab her, but she continued to scream and the man walked away toward Stonewall Park, Woolverton said.

Officers searched the area, but did not find the suspect, who the victim said was clean shaven, with curly blond hair and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. Woolverton said.

The woman was not touched or injured during the attack, Woolverton said.

Man accosts 7-year-old in Woodbridge woods

A man wearing black clothing and a ski mask that covered his face approached a 7-year-old girl at 5 p.m. Wednesday as she played in a wooded area behind Paula and Calvert streets in Woodbridge, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

The girl told police that the man came up to her and said he was taking over the fort she was playing in and then grabbed her by the arm, Chinn said.

The girl pulled her arm from the man’s grasp and ran away, Chinn said.

People in the area flagged down a medical unit that was passing by and the county rescue workers called police, Chinn said.

Officer finds man in possession of drugs

A Manassas police officer who was on foot patrol near Center and Battle streets in Manassas arrested a 20-year-old Centreville man for felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of marijuana after he smelled marijuana smoke coming from a parked car, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, Manassas police spokesman.

When he smelled the smoke, Officer Michael Sukeena questioned the man in the car, Pouyan Zahipour Moarefi, of 14802 Londontown Square in Centreville, Woolverton said.

Sukeena searched Moarefi and found a plastic baggie with what police suspect was heroin inside, a smoking device with marijuana inside, a spoon and a syringe, Woolverton said.

Moarefi was held in lieu $3,500 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 13, Woolverton said.

SUV stolen from parking lot on Mathis Avenue

A blue 2001 Dodge Durango worth an estimated $19,600 was stolen from a parking lot at 8907 Mathis Avenue between Dec. 23 and 27, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, Manassas police spokesman.

The SUV had no license plates when it was stolen, Woolverton said.

Stereo equipment, CDs taken from car

An Aiwa AM/FM compact disc player, a Hard Rock 860-watt amplifier, a Splash 12-inch sub-woofer and 20 compact discs in a leather case, worth an estimated $545, were stolen from a 1991 Honda Accord, which was parked overnight on Dec. 28 in the 9500 block of Nittany Drive, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, Manassas police spokesman.

Thieves steal parts in rash of car break-ins

Three cars were broken into between Monday night and Tuesday morning, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, Manassas police spokesman.

The front grill and intake hose, a K40 police radar detector, an Apex 1 booster gauge, Apex 1 exhaust gas temperature gauge and an Apex 1 fuel pressure gauge and an Apex 1 booster, worth an estimated $1,800, were stolen from 2000 Honda Civic parked in the 9300 block of Amaryllis Avenue, Woolverton said.

In the 9300 block of Rivercrest Road, the windows of a 2000 Acura Integra were broken and a Dell laptop computer, a Canon Powershot G2 camera and a Pioneer sub-woofer and box worth an estimated $2,600 were stolen from the car, which was parked in the victim’s driveway, Woolverton said.

Two 12-inch Kenwood speakers a Kenwood amplifier and four wheel rims and tires, worth an estimated $2,100, were stolen from a 1996 Honda Civic, which was parked in the 9000 block of Bonham Circle, Woolverton said.

Appliances taken from houses under construction

A dishwasher, a range and a microwave oven were stolen from two houses under construction in the 17600 and 17700 blocks of Avenel Lane in Dumfries between 4:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

Police: Teens may have broken into house

A home under construction in the 14300 block of Stella Court in Dale City was broken into between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. There was evidence that teenagers had been hanging out and drinking and smoking in the house, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

The teens removed a Plexiglas sheet from a window to enter the house. The window was broken in a previous illegal entry, Chinn said.

Intruder breaks window, enters thrift store

Someone threw a rock through the window of a thrift store in the 14455 block of Jefferson Davis Highway between 1:30 and 1:56 a.m. Wednesday and went inside the Woodbridge store, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

Nothing was taken from the store, Chinn said.

Burglars break into house, take guns

Someone used a rock to break a bedroom window of a home in the 3800 block of Danbury Court in Dale City between 12:35 and 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

A .44-caliber Smith & Wesson Magnum handgun, a non-specified handgun, a Remington 870 shotgun and a .22-caliber rifle, worth an estimated total of $950, were stolen from the home, Chinn said.

Coins, cash taken from Weatherburn Court home

Two large water bottles full of loose change, worth about $50, and a $50 bill were stolen from a house in the 2900 block of Weatherburn Court in Woodbridge between 9:05 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

There was no sign of forced entry, Chinn said.

Burglars break into NOVEC control house

Burglars breached a fence that surrounded the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative control house at 14008 Smoketown Road in Woodbridge and used rocks to break a glass pane in the building’s door, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

The burglars gained entry to the control house but nothing was taken and nothing was damaged, Chinn said.
