18-year-old man dies in motorcycle accident

An 18-year-old Woodbridge man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a parked pick-up truck in a driveway at 1529 Florida Ave. in Woodbridge at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Detective Dennis Mangan, Prince William police spokesman said Friday night.

Atilio Humberto Cruz, of 1712 Florida Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene. Mangan said Cruz lost control of his 2000 Honda and drove into the truck. He said speed was apparently a factor.

Cruz had a motorcycle learner’s permit, Mangan said.

Francisco Cruz, 26, said his brother died doing what he loved.

“The man loved to ride. He died on his bike,” Francisco said. “That took his life, but he died doing something that he loved. That was his toy, that was his life, that was his baby.”

Cruz attended Potomac High School before graduating from high school in Baltimore, Md.

Francisco said his brother, who graduated this year from the Job Corps center in Woodstock, Md., will be missed by many people. The federal Job Corps program provides training and skills to young people.

“He loved his friends. He would never let them down,” Francisco said. “If anyone needed him, he was quick to be there. He’ll be missed by many.”
