County woman sentenced for assault and battery
A 31-year-old Woodbridge woman who scratched a Prince William County police officer pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery on an officer in Prince William Circuit Court Monday.
Linda Michelle Arthur, of 1203 Hale Court, Woodbridge, was attending a party at 1759 Fort Henry Court when the incident occurred. Officer K.D. Barrett stopped to check on the party after Prince William police received complaints about noise.
Barrett was checking Arthur’s identification when she charged him and snatched the ID back, scratching Barrett’s hand, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney James Willett told the court. Willett recommended 180 days in jail with 176 suspended.
Arthur’s defense attorney, Kelly Latimer, told Circuit Court Judge William D. Hamblen that the scratch had been inadvertent. She requested that Arthur be allowed to serve her time on weekends, since Arthur had recently taken a new job to support her two children.
Hamblen sentenced Arthur to four days in jail, commencing immediately.
