As the victim was opening his car door, a man walked up, put a gun in his face and demanded money, Chinn said. The victim then told the man he didn’t have any money. The man punched him in the face and ran away, Chinn said.

The attempted robber is described as black, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a dark gray puffy jacket and black pants. Police believe he is between 20 and 23, Chinn said.

Police chase, charge suspected drug dealer

A short car and foot chase led to the seizure of marijuana Tuesday at 12:36 a.m., near the intersection of Darbydale and Emberdale drives in Dale City, 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman, said Tuesday.

Officer Andrew Arredondo was trying to stop Troy Pettiway, 24, of 4316 Elliot Court in Dale City for crossing traffic lines and speeding, Chinn said.

As Pettiway’s car was moving slowly, he jumped out and ran away, Chinn said.

As the foot chase moved on past nearby town houses, Arredondo saw Pettiway throw something on the ground near a power box, Chinn said.

Pettiway punched Arredondo in the neck and kicked him in the leg, Chinn said. He was finally “subdued,” Chinn said.

After going back to the spot where the item was tossed, police discovered an eight ounce bag of marijuana, Chinn said.

Pettiway was charged with possession intent to distribute, eluding a police officer, obstruction of justice and assault and battery on a police officer.

He is being held without bond, Chinn said.
