John Wilmer Porter

John Wilmer Porter, 85, of Dumfries, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.

He was a retired elected official.

Preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Porter, survivors include two

daughters, Gwen P. Washington and Hazel L. Sykes, both of Dumfries; four

brothers, Leon Porter of Woodbridge, Daniel Porter of Triangle, Carroll

Porter of Manassas and Clarence Porter of Los Angeles; four sisters, Grace

Close of Dumfries, Margaret Wray of Woodbridge, Juanita Smith of Triangle

and Mae Minor of Stafford; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. Friday at Little Union Baptist

Church, 17018 Mine Road, Dumfries, where funeral services will be held at

noon with the Rev. James Green officiating. Burial will be at Dumfries Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Union

Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Ames Funeral Home, Inc.

Helen L. White

Helen White, 77, of Dahlgren died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at Washington

and Lee Home for the Elderly in Westmoreland County.

She ran a preschool and nursery for more than 20 years.

She was the widow of James C. White.

Survivors include one daughter, H. Theresa Pitts of Dahlgren; one sister;

three sons, James J. and Robert L. White, both of King George County, and

Michael G. White of Dahlgren; a sister, Annabelle Samsock of Huntington,

W.Va.; one brother, Ralph Landis of Stafford County; 10 grandchildren; and

two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at Nash & Slaw Funeral

Home, King George, with the Rev. Willis A. Dempsey officiating. Burial will

be in Historyland Memorial Park in King George.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral

home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions

to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

Rick Roberts

Rick Roberts, 29, of Sumerduck, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at Fauquier

Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1971 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a veteran with the

U.S. Air Force.

He is preceded in death by his father Martinez A. Roberts.

Survivors include LeeAnn D. Roberts, wife, of Sumerduck, his mother,

Veonesse Roberts, of Manassas, two sons; Thaddaeus M. Roberts and Obadiah

E. Roberts, of Sumerduck and one brother; Gardner Roberts of Manassas.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moser Funeral

Home. The funeral will be held at Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Goldvein,

on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Allen Dickerson, officiating.
