OBITUARIES
Elizabeth Sue McGuire, 58, died Aug. 4, 2000, while vacationing in Puerto Rico.
She was a long-time resident of Manassas. She was a Radford
University graduate who taught English as a Second Language at Centreville
High School and she enjoyed spending her free time with her four grandsons.
She was a member of the Preceptor Gamma Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Simpson
of Culpeper; one sister, Ann Abeille of Braintree, Mass.; one brother, James
Simpson II and his wife of Placentia, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Kim and Randy Smith of Manassas and Angie and Marc McCoy of Manassas; three
nephews; three nieces; and four grandsons, Garrett and Bronson Smith of
Manassas and Bradley and Shane McCoy of Manassas.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Blasius-Baker
Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday
at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janet Engler officiating.
Interment to follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens.
Vernie Alice Neal, 67, of Manassas,
died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at her home.
She was a member of Soul’s Harbor Church of God, Manassas.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Neal; three children,
Nancy A. Coleman of Manassas, Ronnie A. Puckett of Timberville and James
E. Puckett of Manassas; two brothers, Raymond Smith of Manassas and Lewis
Lowery of Craigsville; three sisters, Virginia Jacobs of Christiansburg,
Dorine Tweedlie of Concord, N.C. and Faye Schimmel of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren,
28 grandchildren; and two unborn great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and
Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. Funeral services
will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Soul’s Harbor Church of God, 8900 Portner
Ave., Manassas, with the Rev. D. Tony Willis and the Rev. William Synan
officiating. Interment will be Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.
James Joseph Gannon, 64, of
Springfield, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls
Church.
He was a 1955 graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School,
Washington, D.C., where he was quarterback. He retired from Washington Gas
& Light as a general foreman with more than 38 years of service. He
served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen M. Gannon of Springfield;
four sons, James Gannon of Herndon, Glenn Gannon of Occoquan, Michael Gannon
of Springfield and Sean Gannon of Alexandria; two brothers, Thomas Gannon
of Maryland and Peter Gannon of Delaware; two sisters, Helen Cook of Maryland
and Louise Calman of Delaware; and one grandson, Zachary Joseph Gannon.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday
at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, where funeral services
will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Billy G. Tatum officiating.
Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, with military
honors.
Jo Ann Massie Brooks, 68, of
Manassas, died peacefully at her home Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.
She was a loving mother and homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband, Isaac H. Brooks, she
is survived by six children, David Ray Brooks and wife Virginia of Manassas,
Twila Brooks Quillen and husband Kimmel of Manassas, Isaac Robert Brooks
and wife Faye of Manassas, Deborah Brooks and husband Richard of Beckley,
W.Va., Diana Brooks Morris and husband James of Yorkshire and Ronald Price
Brooks and wife Latisha of Manassas; one brother, Daniel Ray Massie of Coolridge,
W.Va.; and four sisters, Melda Pettry of Westlake, Ohio, Violet Bullard
of Beckley, W.Va., Mary Rose Allen of Dothan, Ala. and Lura Jean McMillan
of Lebanon, 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at
Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. Funeral services will be
at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Battlefield Baptist Church, 4361 Lee Highway, Gainesville,
with the Rev. K.G. Skinner officiating. Interment will be at National Memorial
Park, Falls Church.
Audrey Berry Davis, 92, of
Manassas, died Aug. 4, 2000, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
She is survived by two daughters, Juanita Peters and Yvonne
Lansdowne, both of Manassas; five sons, Douglas Davis of Falls Church, Carol
Davis of Warrenton, Charles Davis of Manassas, Walter Davis of Manassas
Park and Thomas Davis of Washington, D.C.; four daughters-in-law; eight
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; one foster
son, Thomas Underwood; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Aug. 15, at Ames
Funeral Home, 8914 Quarry Road, Manassas, where funeral service will be
at 10 a.m. with the Revs. Douglas and Mary Baltimore officiating. Interment
will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
