Manassas Journal Messenger | Mo-ped driver hit by a Jeep in stable condition
The mo-ped driver hit by a Jeep in the entrance to Gar-Field High School on Tuesday was in stable condition Wednesday at Inova Fairfax Hospital, said Detective Dennis Mangan, Prince William police spokesman.
Ronald Lee Draper, 49, of 3517 Buffalo Court, Dale City, was hit at 4:22 p.m. when he drove his G-43cc scooter into the intersection against a green light, Mangan said.
Draper was traveling north on the sidewalk on Smoketown Road.
Police charged Draper, who broke a bone in his neck and cut his face in the accident, with careless interference of traffic, Mangan said.
The driver of the 1997 Cherokee, Timothy Jabar Rice, 21, of 1312 Bayside Drive, Woodbridge, was charged with driving on a suspended license, Mangan said.
Witnesses on Smoketown Road at the time of the accident Tuesday said Draper stopped and looked both ways before he drove into the high school’s entrance.
Draper flipped head-over-heels and landed on his head after the jeep hit him. He remained conscious until the MedStar helicopter arrived at the scene, witnesses said.
