Manassas Journal Messenger | Pedestrian killed in traffic accident
An 81-year-old woman crossing Prince William Parkway on foot was killed after a truck accidentally struck her Saturday afternoon, police said.
The woman tried to cross the westbound lanes of the six-lane highway about 1 p.m. near Caton Hill Road, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William County police spokeswoman.
An American Disposal Services International roll-off truck driven by a 60-year-old Manassas man accidentally struck her, Chinn said.
Marvis Brockman, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene, Chinn said.
Brockman lived at the River Run at Prince William Commons senior apartments at 13910 Hedgewood Drive in Woodbridge.
“She was apparently walking along the parkway and decided to cross there and stepped out in front of a truck,” Chinn said.
There is not a crosswalk where Brockman attempted to cross.
Caton Hill Road intersects the parkway just west of Interstate 95.
Three lanes of the parkway near the Caton Hill Road underpass were shut down for about two hours, she said. Traffic backed up and was detoured west on Caton Hill Road to Telegraph Road and back to Prince William Parkway.
Chinn said the truck’s driver, Claude Pollard, 60, will not be charged. She said alcohol and speed were not factors.
Witnesses stopped and attempted CPR on Brockman, Chinn said.
